Hi there,
It’s been a busy and tiring news week, so I wanted to share some updates with you. Know that I’m thinking of you through this really frustrating 3rd wave and that I continue to work tirelessly to make our community’s concerns heard with the government.
Vaccine Update
Adults 40 years of age or older are now eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine available in select pharmacies. I would encourage everyone who is eligible to register for an appointment. You can find the list of participating locations here. You can call some locations directly or register online for the next available spot.
I want to assure everyone frustrated by the lack of accessible vaccine clinics in our neighbourhoods that I continue to advocate for a more equitable distribution of vaccines in our riding. In the meantime, the safest vaccine is the one offered to you and I encourage everyone to get vaccinated when they can!
Fighting for Better Decision Making
I’m sure many of you felt the collective shock and frustration felt across the province over the proposal of dangerous police powers and ineffective restrictions last week. Many discussions took place online and I participated actively to ensure I could voice everyone’s concerns back at Queen’s Park. On Wednesday, I was sure to ask the Solicitor General about those distressing policing powers and the awful traffic backups at our Gatineau crossings. You can watch my questions and her answers by clicking on the video above.
While further action was necessary given the rise in cases, what we have been asking for is paid sick leave, a more effective approach to vaccinations, and more protection for essential workers. This week, we once again urged the government to implement paid sick leave without further delay. The government has now voted against this 20 times. While I welcome the news that they’re working on their own solution, it’s extremely long overdue and we can’t afford to waste any more time.
With the release of the Science Table’s recommendations on what should and shouldn’t be done, it’s clear that the government isn’t listening to the experts. I want to thank everyone that has joined in on pushing the government for more accountability and I will continue to do so until we see science-based and effective action in our communities.
