Debating Bill 161

Last week, I participated in my first debate at Queen’s Park to once again voice my concerns on the impact of Bill 161. This proposed Ontario justice modernization law addresses some overdue changes, but also contains deeply concerning revisions that we cannot ignore. It makes it harder for Ontarians to hold big businesses and government accountable through class actions, undermines access to justice, and reduces community legal services.

Earlier this month, I proposed 23 amendments to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy to ensure we protect our most vulnerable Ontarians. Despite all 23 amendments being rejected, I will not stand down on this issue. Listen to my interview on this matter in French with Alison Vicrobeck of Radio-Canada Toronto/Windsor here.

Hearing from Ottawa-Vanier

My Ottawa-Vanier colleagues and I held the last three town halls of this round over the last two weeks. We had the opportunity to hear from residents of Wateridge Village, Beacon Hill, Rothwell Heights, Lindenlea, New Edinburgh, and Rockcliffe on the local issues they are facing amidst COVID-19.

Thank you to all those who have participated in the town halls we have been hosting over the past two months. It has been so valuable to stay engaged with all of you virtually on how we can better support our communities during this time. The discussion doesn’t need to stop here! Your feedback is important to help us make the right decisions for our communities.

If you were not able to participate in the town halls or if you have new concerns to raise, I always want to hear about the reality you are facing during COVID-19. Your input is vital to ensuring I can bring Ottawa-Vanier’s voice to the Ontario Legislative Assembly during this COVID-19 re-opening process. Please fill out this form with your input:

Happy Canada Day!

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Canada Day! My kids and I took the train to Québec while ensuring we followed all public health guidelines. Celebrations across the country certainly looked different this year, but I hope everyone was able to find a virtual or socially distant way to enjoy the day.

As always, thank you for doing your part in fighting COVID-19. My team remains available to help. Please feel free to give us a call at 613-744-4484 or send us an email at lcollard.mpp.co@liberal.ola.org.
