Lucille Collard, MPP for Ottawa-Vanier, is looking forward to the first sitting day after 111 days since Doug Ford prorogued the legislature. After spending the summer consulting with residents in Ottawa-Vanier, MPP Collard is focussed on what is needed to ensure all Ontarians thrive in our COVID-19 recovery and improve the lives of those who’s injustices persist.
“For families, high quality, affordable childcare isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. We need 10$/day childcare here in Ontario. The federal government has been able to work with Seven provinces and three territories to reach an agreement on childcare. Yet Ontarians are left empty handed under the Ford government. Instead, families are forced to wait for Doug Ford to realize he needs this childcare agreement to score political points ahead of the next election” said Lucille Collard, Ontario Liberal critic for the status of women. “I will put pressure on the Premier and his Ministers to get a deal for 10$ a day childcare that meets the expectations of parents, including the expectation that childcare be affordable, accessible, inclusive and high quality”
“This pandemic has shown us that Ontarians on ODSP, and Ontario Works deserve an in-depth review to better protect and support people who depends on this program. From claw backs to cuts, Doug Ford and his ministers have let down this community.” added Lucille Collard, new Ontario Liberal critic for Children, Community and Social Services. “We cannot stop at simply reviewing the relevant programs. We must make meaningful investments in affordable and supportive housing. We need to work in collaboration with all levels of government and with private partners to create more social housing that we know can help change lives.”
“I’ve spoken to parents who tell me the importance of improving safety in our schools. We need to make rapid tests more available to all families. Throughout this pandemic, we have seen our hospitals overwhelmed. Hospital Montfort has been outstanding in servicing francophones and patients of all walks of life throughout the pandemic. Pressure needs to be relieved by offering accessible equitable francophone services to the community with a francophone community health centre in Vanier” concluded Collard, MPP for Ottawa-Vanier.
