Hi there,
As we head into the weekend, I want to wish a very happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in Ottawa-Vanier and across Ontario. On Wednesday, I spoke in the House on the importance of supporting women mothers and you can watch my full statement here.
Vaccine Update
For several weeks I have been advocating for a more equitable distribution of vaccines in our community in recognition that areas in our riding are high-risk neighbourhoods. Even if the provincial government has not been receptive to my repeated requests, I will continue to be the voice for the residents of Ottawa-Vanier to demand fair treatment. The Ottawa Public Health website remains the best source to know what’s happening with vaccines. I finally got my vaccine today and I was very impressed with the well-rounded process.

Vanier Pop-Up Testing Centre
While I continue to encourage all those eligible to register for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, we must not forget that COVID-19 testing is just as important! Tests have proven themselves crucial during this pandemic by helping to keep track of the virus in our communities. If you are showing COVID-19 symptoms, get tested. You can book an appointment with the COVID-19 Pop-Up Testing Site at Vanier Community Service Centre by calling 613-288-5353. The Pop-Up is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm. For more information, visit the Testing Information webpage by Ottawa Public Health.
Introducing my First Private Member’s Bill
This Tuesday, I introduced my first Private Member’s Bill in the House. The Equity Education for Young Ontarians Act seeks to ensure that all students in the Ontario education system gain an understanding of the realities of racial and social inequities in our province. It also mandates that concrete action be taken to monitor and eliminate systemic barriers in our education system. You can watch the video of me introducing the Bill below and you can read more on this on my website.
The future of our province starts with our children and I believe that an inclusive and equitable Ontario starts with their education. I look forward to debating this Bill in the House on May 19, 2021, and I encourage everyone to voice their support for this initiative. Please feel free to share my post on Twitter and on Facebook and add your voice to spread the word.
Have a great weekend,
Lucille
