Bill 287 – Equity in Education for Young Ontarians Act

  • Provincial News

If passed, the Equity in Education for Young Ontarians Act would require that children be taught about the realities of racial and social inequities in Ontario through the education system. It would also legislate education and action to build a more inclusive province. Prejudice and intolerance are learned attitudes, so I strongly believe that building a more inclusive and equitable Ontario begins in the classroom. Visit this link to read Bill 287 in its entirety.

Subject: Support Bill 287 on May 19th!

Dear Minister Lecce, Parliamentary Assistant Oosterhoff, and my local MPP,

I am writing from [City/Riding] to voice my support for Bill 287, the Equity in Education for Young Ontarians Act. I urge you to vote in favour of this Bill following debate on Wednesday, May 19th, 2021.

Students of all ages should be learning the realities of racial and social inequities in Ontario. Everyone deserves to feel safe and included in their communities, but that is not the case for too many Ontarians. With an education curriculum that shines a light on the realities of our history and on the inequities that remain, we can fight for a future without racism and discrimination in this province.

Ontario needs an adapted education curriculum and a guaranteed commitment to fighting systemic barriers in the education system. Racialized communities and Indigenous Peoples in this province deserve a government that will not hesitate to take concrete steps towards equity and inclusion.

Once again, I call on you to support Bill 287 this Wednesday, May 19th.

Sincerely,
[Name]
[City, ON]
